WORSHIP JULY 5 2015
11 A.M. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING  Daisy Ottmann

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Dance II  Calvin Hampton

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Who is like the Lord our God, who is seated on high, who looks far down on the heavens and the earth?

People: He raises the poor from the dust, and lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people.

Leader: He gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children. Praise the Lord.

People: Praise the Lord! Let us worship God: our creator, redeemer and sustainer. Amen. - Psalm 113:5-9

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 262  God of the Ages, Whose Almighty Hand

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, maker of the earth and all that is in it, you have created us for worship and joy. Yet, in sin, we have hidden our faces and shuffled away. We take the part of spectator rather than joining in the joyous dance of faith. Forgive our shrinking away. It is our fear that keeps us from living into you. So cleanse us we pray, from all that frightens us, and bring us into your presence that we may worship in spirit and truth. We pray this in the name of Jesus, and for his sake. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: We know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus, and will bring us with you into his presence.

People: Yes, everything is for your sake, so that grace, as it extends to more and more people may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - 2 Corinthians 4:14-15

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  (Hymn 176)

O who shall stand before the Lord on Zion’s holy hill? The clean of hand, the pure of heart, the just who do God’s will.

THE ANTHEM  Be Thou My Vision  Carlton Young

Be thou my vision O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art thou my best thought, by day or by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light. Be thou my wisdom and thou my true word; I ever with thee and thou with me Lord. Thou my soul's shelter, and thou my high tower, O thou in me dwelling and I with thee one. High king of heaven my victory won. May I reach heaven’s joys O bright heav’n’s sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever be fall, O still be my vision, thou ruler of all.

THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON  2 Samuel 6:1-5; 12-23 (page 267 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE SERMON  “Dancing in the Lord’s House”  Baron Mullis

*THE HYMN 460  Holy God, We Praise Your Name

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
