WORSHIP JUNE 14 2015
11 A.M. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING  Erickson Harris

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Eventide  Alec Rowley

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: You, O Lord, have made us glad by your work; at the works of your hands we sing for joy.

People: The righteous flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

Leader: They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God.

People: In old age they still produce fruit; they are always green showing that the Lord is upright.

Leader: It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O most high. Let us worship the Lord. Amen. - Psalm 92: 1, 4, 12-14

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 274  O God of Earth and Space

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

To what can we compare your kingdom, O God? We confess, we often have a hard time seeing it around us. How can we even begin to thank you for the grace-filled invitation to live in your beloved community? We confess that at times we feel outside your family, and at times we play gate keeper, excluding those you have already included. We confess that we really do want to be more like Jesus but the world often overwhelms our best intentions. Forgive us, O God, for the many times we let sin overcome your peace. Help us trust the seed of faith you have planted in us and are growing in our hearts so that our lives reflect the glory and expansive reach of your love.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE  (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who has dealt wondrously with you.

People: My people shall never again be put to shame. You shall know that I am in the midst of you and that I, the Lord, am your God, and there is no other.

Leader: My people shall never again be put to shame. Believe the good news of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Alleluia. Amen. - Joel 2:26-27

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  (Hymn 285)

You have called us to be faithful in our life and ministry, we respond in grateful worship joined in one community. When we blur your gracious image, focus us and make us whole. Healed and strengthened as your people, we move onward toward your goal.

There is no mountain high enough, no river wide enough, no ocean deep enough to separate me from God. No desert dry enough, no jungle thick enough, no darkness black enough to keep me from my Lord. There is no mountain high enough, no river wide enough, no ocean deep enough to separate me from God. No king is great enough, no army large enough, no power strong enough to keep me from my Lord. There is no mountain high enough, no river wide enough, no ocean deep enough to separate me from God.

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
