WORSHIP MAY 31 2015
11 a.m. WORSHIP
TRINITY SUNDAY

THE GATHERING  Drew Stockstill

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr  J.S. Bach

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;

People: Break forth into joyous song and sing praises.

Leader: Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody.

People: With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the Lord.

Leader: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer. Amen.

- Psalm 98:4-6

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 138  Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O Lord our God, we confess that we have not trusted the good news. Our shouts about empty tombs are short lived. We have rolled the stone back over the door. Even still, we know that we are sinners in need of grace. Even still, we know that we have not loved you with our whole heart, mind, strength and soul, and we know we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves either. So for-give us, we pray. Restore us to the knowledge of the empty tomb and good news of the resurrection and then give our faith strength and conviction that we may be doers of the word and not hearers only. We ask it in the name of our risen Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: So then, brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh, for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

People: For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.

Leader: For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, “Abba! Father!” it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

People: And if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven!

- Romans 8:12-17

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
