Leader: O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

People: When you send forth your spirit, they are created; and you renew the earth.

Leader: May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works.

People: We will sing to the Lord as long as we live!

Leader: May the Holy Spirit descend upon us and let us worship and praise the Lord!

-Ps. 104

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 313  Come Down, O Love Divine

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, the day of Pentecost has come and we’ve gathered together in your house, not really sure of what to do next. We know the Bible tells us that your Holy Spirit is always with us, we know that you promised to be active in the world and in our lives, we know that we are supposed to feel you close to us. For some of us, understanding this comes easily but many of us struggle to grasp your mystical presence. Forgive us for the ways we limit you by engaging you only with our minds. Take us in your spiritual hand and show us visions of your kingdom beyond our imaginations. Amaze and astonish us so that we can be messengers of your radical love, intoxicated by your Spirit. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE  (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Hear the good news! Who is in a position to condemn?

People: Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us.

Leader: So believe the good news of the gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Alleluia! Amen.

- Romans 8:34

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  (Hymn 322)

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me; spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me. Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

THE FIRST LESSON  Acts 2:1-21 (page 111 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE ANTHEM  Draw Us in the Spirit’s Tether  Harold Friedell

Draw us in the Spirit's tether; For when humbly, in thy name, Two or three are met together, Thou art in the midst of them: Alleluya! Alleluya! Touch we now thy garment's hem. As the brethren used to gather In the name of Christ to sup, Then with thanks to God the Father Break the bread and bless the cup, Alleluya! Alleluya! So knit thou our friendship up. All our meals and all our living Make us sacraments of thee, That be caring, helping, giving, We may true disciples be. Alleluya! Alleluya! We will serve thee faithfully.

THE SECOND LESSON  Ezekiel 37:1-14 (page 759 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE SERMON  “Pentecost 2015”  Drew Stockstill

*THE HYMN 126  Come, Holy Spirit, Heavenly Dove

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
