*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: I will bless the Lord at all times; God’s praise shall continually be in my mouth.

People: My soul makes its boast in the Lord; let the humble hear and be glad.

Leader: O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt God’s name together.

People: I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Leader: Look to God, and be radiant, so your faces shall never be ashamed.

People: We have come to worship God: our creator, redeemer and sustainer.

- Psalm 34:1-5

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 473  For the Beauty of the Earth

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, we have turned our eyes from your goodness. Where you have been exceedingly gracious to us, we have seen only hardness. Where you have acted on our behalf, we see instead coincidence. Where our prayers were not answered to our satisfaction, we assume indifference. Our hearts are hardened to the mystery of your presence among us. Forgive us we pray, and open our eyes to all of your blessings. Make us aware of the gracious benefits you have given us, and always, keep us in your care. It is in the name of Jesus Christ that we pray. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE  (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: I appeal to you, therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

People: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God – what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Romans: 12:1-2

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  (Hymn 341)

This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long; this is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long.

THE ANTHEM  With Songs of Rejoicing  Johann Sebastian Bach, arr. Hal Hopson

With songs of rejoicing sing praise to the Lord; for he has done marvelous things! Break forth into joy. His praises the lyre and the trumpet employ. The floods clap their hands, and the hills sing for joy. The seas with their roaring speaking praise to his name. With songs of rejoicing sing praise to the Lord; for he has done marvelous things! Break forth into joy. Come make a joyful noise. Sing to the Lord Alleluia! Sing Alleluia!

THE GOSPEL LESSON  1 John 5:1-6 (page 227 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE SERMON  “Conquering the World”  Baron Mullis

*THE HYMN 498  Child of Blessing, Child of Promise

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
