WORSHIP MAY 3 2015
11 a.m. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING  Baron Mullis

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Berglund  Robert Buckley Farlee

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Our praise in the great congregation comes from God.

People: The poor shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek God shall praise the Lord. May your hearts live forever!

Leader: All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the Lord; and all the families of the nations shall worship before God.

People: For dominion belongs to the Lord, and God rules over the nations.

Leader: Let us worship the Lord. - Psalm 22: 25-28

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 555  Now Thank We All Our God

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

All love is from you, O God, and all of creation is your beloved. You are love and we are all made in your image of love. You commanded us to live in love, yet we confess that we often struggle to love even ourselves, much less those around us and those far from us. In our privilege, we become apathetic to injustice and oppression rather than empathetic and loving. We often don’t understand just how much you love us and how you long for us to be at peace. Help us, O God, to name that which prevents us from living into the truth of our baptisms so that we might bear fruit for your beloved community. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Jesus says, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.

People: God removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit God prunes to make it bear more fruit.

Leader: You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you.” Therefore believe the good news of the gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Alleluia. Amen. - John 15:1-3

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 304)

Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so; little ones to him belong; they are weak, but he is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
