WORSHIP APRIL 12 2015
11 a.m. WORSHIP

THE GATHERING  Baron Mullis

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Prelude in F Major  J.S. Bach

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Faith begins by letting go, by giving up what had seemed sure.

People: Faith begins by taking risks and pressing on, though the way feels less secure.

Leader: Fed with the promise of the gospel, our souls will thrive, not through merit we possess, but by God’s great faithfulness.

People: Faith matures by reaching out, stretching minds, enlarging hearts, sharing struggles, living prayers, and binding up the broken parts.

Leader: Let us worship our faithful, loving God and our risen Savior. Amen.

- (Hymn 684, Glory to God)

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 111  Good Christians All, Rejoice and Sing!

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

O Lord, it is not easy for us to stand firmly in our faith. In times of doubt and fear our confidence is shaken, and we are quick to abandon our trust in you. When we are lost, we may seek a path of our own. When it is dark, we may seek a light of our own. Gracious God forgive our doubts and our fears. We ask that you give us the courage to remember, that in Jesus Christ you chose to be with us and will always remain by our side. When we are lost your grace guides us and when it is dark the light of your love leads us. For it is through Christ that we will always return to your loving embrace. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE  (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all.

People: But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - 1 John: 1:5-7

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
