WORSHIP FEBRUARY 22 2015
FIRST SUNDAY IN LENT
THE GATHERING Josh Stanley
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.
THE PRELUDE Choral Dorien Jehan Alain
*THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations.
People: Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.
Leader: You turn us back to dust, and say, ‘Turn back, you mortals.’ For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or like a watch in the night.
People: The days of our life are seventy years, or perhaps eighty, if we are strong; even then, their span is only toil and trouble, they are soon gone, and we fly away.
Leader: Let us worship the triune God, creator, redeemer and sustainer, Amen.
- Psalm 90:1-4,10
*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 181 Come Sing to God
THE CALL TO CONFESSION
THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
O Lord, you know us so very well. We believe that we can hide things from your sight. We are wrong. We believe that we should hide our misdeeds. We are wrong. You know us so very well and you love us. We needn’t hide at all. Why do we hide, O Lord? We hide because we are afraid. We are afraid that you will judge us. We forget that in Jesus, you, the judge, stood in our place. You know us so well, O God, because you chose to be with us. Forgive our fear, and turn our hearts back to you. We pray it in the name of the one who stood in our place, Jesus Christ. Amen.
THE KYRIE (Hymn 572)
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.
A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see: everything has become new.
People: All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - 2 Corinthians 5:17-19

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
