WORSHIP JANUARY 25 2015
3RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

THE GATHERING  Josh Stanley

Leader: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  O Waley, Waley  Robert Redhead

William Southwood, flugelhorn

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: You will be my witnesses, says the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am the one.

People: I am the Lord, and besides me there is no savior.

Leader: I declared and saved and proclaimed and you are my witnesses. Let us worship the Lord. -Isaiah 43:10-12

*  THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 379  My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Holy God, into the busyness of our lives you boldly show up and stand strong. Declaring good news and proclaiming the nearness of God's kingdom you save us and call us to change our hearts and lives, to trust and follow you and be your witnesses. Yet, we confess we have not dropped our nets and followed you with our whole lives. At times we have hidden your light for different reasons: fear, embarrassment, apathy. We have let opportunities pass by to obey your call and testify to your grace and love to those we know could use some good news. Forgive us Lord Jesus. Renew our passion and courage to be your followers and witnesses. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: In Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.

People: So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making God's appeal through us.

Leader: We beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God and believe the good news of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven!   -2 Corinthians 5:19-20

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 398)

Sweet Holy Spirit, sweet heavenly Dove, stay right here with us, filling us with your love; and for these blessings we lift our hearts in praise. Without a doubt we’ll know that we have been revived when we shall leave this place.

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
