*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: A child has been born for us,

Leader: authority rests upon his shoulders, and he is named:

People: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Leader: Let us worship the Lord. - Isaiah. 9:6

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 31  Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Almighty God, you wonderfully created, and yet more wonderfully restored, the dignity of human nature. Your Son Jesus Christ was presented in the temple and acclaimed the glory of Israel and the light of the nations. Yet, we confess that we often damage the dignity of fellow human beings, mistreat and exploit your creation and have not engaged with all the nations of the world as equals. Forgive us for the way we disregard the light of grace that you bring into the world for all people and all creation. Grant that in Christ we may be presented to you and in the world may reflect his glory. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: Behold I bring you good news of a great joy;

People: for to you is born in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

Leader: Therefore, believe the Good News of the gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven! -Luke 2:10,11

*THE AFFIRMATION OF FAITH  (from The Nicene Creed 325 A.D)

We Believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM

People: With joy and thanksgiving we welcome this child into Christ’s church. We are the family of God for we are all one in Christ.
