among the nations.

Leader: Let the peoples praise you, O God, let all the peoples praise you.

with equity and guide the nations upon the earth.

People: The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, has blessed us.

May God continue to bless us; let all the ends of the earth revere him!

Leader: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer. Amen. - Psalm 67

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 446  Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, when we read the parables of Jesus, sometimes we see ourselves.

Sometimes we are the laborers who have born the heat of the day. Sometimes we

are the latecomers who receive the benefits of others’ work and faith. Sometimes

we miss the lesson that grace is a free gift. Perhaps we even resent that grace is

wasted on sinners. Forgive us, we pray. Remind us again how much you love us

all. Remind us of how you came for us all, for the sinner, and the saint in each of

us. We ask all these things in Jesus’ name and for his sake. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: In fact, Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died.

People: For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being.

Leader: For as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ. Believe the promise of the Gospel:

People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - Romans 15:20-33

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 357)

In hope that sends a shining ray far down the future’s broadening way; in peace that only thou canst give, with thee, O master, let me live.

THE RECEPTION OF NEW MEMBERS

THE MINUTE MESSAGE  Shannon Harris

THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON  Jonah 3:10-4:11  (page 811 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE ANTHEM  Christ Hath a Garden  Gerald Near

Christ hath a garden walled around, a paradise of fruitful ground, chosen by love and fenced by grace from out the world's wide wilderness. Like trees of spice his servants stand, there planted by his mighty hand; by Eden's gracious streams, that flow to feed their beauty where they grow. Awake, O wind of heav'n and bear their sweetest perfume through the air: stir up, O south, the boughs that bloom, till the beloved Master come: That he may come, and linger yet among the trees that he hath set; that he may evermore be seen to walk amid the springing green.

THE GOSPEL LESSON  Matthew 20:1-16  (page 20 in the pew Bible, NT)

THE SERMON  “Unfair”  Baron Mullis

*THE HYMN 298  There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in

Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,

dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from

the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God

the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and

the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion

of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and

the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,

thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into

temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power

and the glory, forever. Amen.

THE OFFERTORY  Prayer in B flat  Alexandre Guilmant
