THE PRELUDE  Prelude in Classic Style  Gordon Young

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Happy are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord.
People: Your word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.
Leader: I have bound myself by oath and solemn vow to keep your just decrees.
People: Accept our offerings of praise, O Lord, and teach us your ordinances.
Leader: Let us worship God! - Psalm 119:1, 105-112

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 327  O Word of God Incarnate

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of love and justice, we long for peace within and peace without. We long
for harmony in our families, for serenity in the midst of struggle. We long for the
day when our homes will be a dwelling place for your love. Yet we confess that
all too often we are anxious, we do not trust each other, and we harbor violence.
We are not willing to take the risks and make the sacrifices that love requires.
Look upon us with kindness and grace. Rule in our homes and in all the world;
show us how to walk in your paths, through the mercy of our Savior. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Hear this good news - if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation;
People: everything old has passed away. See, everything has become new!
Leader: All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ,
People: and God has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
Leader: Sisters and brothers, believe the good news of the gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! - 2 Corinthians 5:17-18

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  (Hymn 455)
All creatures, your Creator bless, and worship God in humbleness. O sing ye! Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, and praise the Spirit, Three in One!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

THE CONCERNS OF THE CHURCH
(Visitors and members are invited to sign the blue friendship register pad and pass it down the pew.)

THE PSALTER LESSON  Psalm 133 (page 543 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE ANTHEM  Jordan  William Billings
There is a land of pure delight, where saints immortal reign; infinite day excludes the night, and pleasures
banish pain. There everlasting spring abides, and never-with'ring flowers: Death, like a narrow sea,
divides this heavenly land from ours. Sweet fields beyond the swelling flood stand dress'd in living
green; so to the Jews old Canaan stood, while Jordan roll'd between. But tim'rous mortals start and
shrink to cross this narrow sea, and linger, shiv'ring on the brink, and fear to launch away. O could we
make our doubts remove, those gloomy fears that rise, and see the Canaan that we love, with unbeclouded
eyes. Could we but climb where Moses stood, and view the landscape o'er, not Jordan's stream,
nor death's cold flood, should fright us from that shore.

THE OLD TESTAMENT LESSON  Genesis 25:19-34 (page 20 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE SERMON  “Birthright”  James Klotz

*THE HYMN 241  Behold the Goodness of Our Lord

*THE NICENE CREED
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the
Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not
made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy
Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended
into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will
have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the
Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power
and the glory, forever. Amen.

THE OFFERTORY  Let Us Ever Walk with Jesus  Paul Manz

*THE DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF DEDICATION  (Hymn 592)

*THE HYMN 442  The Church’s One Foundation

*THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION

*THE CHORAL RESPONSE  Cast Thy Burden Upon the Lord  Felix Mendelssohn
Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee. He never will suffer the righteous to fall:
He is at thy right hand. Thy mercy, Lord, is great, and far above the heavens. Let none be made
ashamed, that wait upon Thee!

*THE POSTLUDE  Procesión Alegre  Garry Cornell
