THE GATHERING  Drew Stockstill

People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Praeludium in e-moll  Nicolas Bruhns

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praise to your name, O most high!
People: To declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness
by night.
Leader: To the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre.
People: For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your
hands I sing for joy.
Leader: Let us worship God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, Amen. - Psalm 92: 1-4

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 488  The God of Abraham Praise

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, you are from everlasting to everlasting. Your ways are not our
ways. Your thoughts are not our thoughts. Your holiness is so completely other
from our understanding that we cannot fathom it. Yet we think we can. We think
we can discern your inner workings. We ascribe events and motives to you as if
we had knowledge. We set aside the only wisdom we have received, your revelation
in Jesus Christ, to opine on matters for which we have no basis of understanding.
Forgive our overreaching. Remind us of what we may know, of the truth to
which we may understand: our Lord Jesus Christ, in whose name we make our
prayer. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: By grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing: it is the
gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one might boast.
People: For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - Ephesians 2:8-10

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  (Hymn 357)
In hope that sends a shining ray far down the future’s broadening way; in peace that
only thou canst give, with thee, O Master, let me live.

THE SERMON  “Fear the Lord”  Baron Mullis

*THE HYMN 309  Of the Father’s Love Begotten

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in
Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from
the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God
the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and
the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion
of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and
the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power
and the glory, forever. Amen.
