WORSHIP JUNE 15 2014
TRINITY SUNDAY

THE GATHERING  Landon Dillard
One: The Lord be with you.
All: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Allein Gott in der Höh sei Ehr  Johann Sebastian Bach

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP
One: The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.
All: And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.
One: And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Let us worship the Triune God.

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 132  Come, Great God of All the Ages

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Holy God, creator, redeemer and sustainer of the universe; all that is and was
and will be is the result of your good and powerful Word. All of your creation has
life everlasting because of the healing work of Jesus Christ. All of your people are
united and joined to you in holy community because of your Holy Spirit. You are
generous and we are grateful, yet, we must confess that we do not truly grasp the
goodness of your creative power and we underestimate the reach of your unconditional
love and grace and we create boundaries and conditions to exclude people
from your inclusive community. Forgive us, Triune God, and help us to live in
your community in new ways that bring you glory and contribute to the flourishing
of your entire creation. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

*(The asterisk indicates parts of the worship when the congregation is invited to stand as they are able.)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
One: What does the Triune God think of the world?
All: God so loves the world that God sent the son into the world so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but will have eternal life.
One: God didn’t send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. So believe the good news of the gospel:
All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Alleluia! Amen! -John 3: 16-17

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 139)
To Thee, great One in Three, the highest praises be, hence evermore!
Thy sovereign majesty may we in glory see, and to eternity love and adore.

*THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children ages 3-10 are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ for special classes. Threes, fours & fives are in Room 011; K-2nd grade in Room 003; 3rd-5th grade in Room 001).

THE ANTHEM  O Trinity, Most Blessed Light  C. Kenneth Turner
O Trinity, most blessed light, O Unity of sov’reign might! As now the fiery sun departs, shed thou
beams within our hearts. To thee our morning song of praise, to thee our evening prayer we raise, thee
may our souls for evermore in lowly reverence adore. All praise to God the Father be, all praise, Eternal
Son, to thee, whom with the Spirit we adore, for ever, and forevermore. Amen.

THE OLD TESTAMENT READING  Genesis 1-2:3  (page1 in the pew Bible, OT)

THE SERMON  “Who Are We”  Drew Stockstill

*THE HYMN 469  Morning Has Broken

*THE NICENE CREED  Baron Mullis
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the
Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God, begotten, not
made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy
Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended
into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will
have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the
Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power
and the glory, forever. Amen.
