WORSHIP JUNE 1 2014
6th SUNDAY OF EASTER

THE GATHERING  Landon Dillard
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Prelude in G Major  Johann Sebastian Bach

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
People: break forth into joyous song and sing praises.
Leader: Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody.
People: With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise
before the King, the Lord.
Leader: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer. Amen. - Psalm 98:4-6

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 376  Love Divine, All Loves Excelling

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of love, we confess that we have not loved as we have been loved. We
have allowed the world’s way of loving to shape our actions and our thoughts
rather than your holy way of loving. We have loved selfishly, grasping; seeking
for ourselves. You have loved selflessly, giving and living for others. You have
shown us what is good. We have not met your expectations. So teach us again,
we pray, how to be your people. Remind us of the ties of love that bind us together
so that we may be truly your followers. In the name of Jesus we pray, and
for his sake. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
People: Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through him.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - John 3:16-17

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 119)
The strife is o’er, the battle done, the victory of life is won.
The song of triumph has begun. Alleluia!

THE ANTHEM  O How Amiable  Ralph Vaughan Williams
O how amiable are thy dwellings: thou Lord of hosts! My soul hath a desire and a longing to enter into the courts of the Lord: My heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God. Yea, the sparrow hath found her a house, and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young: even the altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be always praising thee. The glorious Majesty of the Lord our God be upon us: prosper thou the work of our hands upon us. O prosper thou our handywork. O God our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home.
