WORSHIP MAY 11 2014
4th SUNDAY OF EASTER

THE GATHERING  Drew Stockstill
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Prelude on Brother James’s Air  Searle Wright

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness,
come into his presence with singing.
People: Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his,
we are his people and the sheep of his pasture.
Leader: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him,
bless his name.
People: For the Lord is good, his steadfast love endures forever, and his
faithfulness to all generations.
Leader: Let us worship God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost. - Psalm 100

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 220  All People That on Earth Do Dwell

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, our sin is before us. We know that we have not lived up to our
baptism. We have forgotten that your tender embrace frees us to live with joy
and gratitude - so we have lingered in doubt and fear. We have created categories
that are meaningless to you, “in” and “out,” “like” and “not like.” This is not
what you want for us. This is not what you want from us. And so once more we
ask your forgiveness and your grace. Once more we ask that you would free us to
live in love and gratitude – with the exceeding abundance of life that is your will
for us. It is in the name of Jesus Christ, the good shepherd, that we pray. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: By grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing: it is the gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one might boast.
People: For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - Ephesians 2:8-10

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE ( Hymn 119)
The strife is o’er, the battle done, the victory of life is won.
The song of triumph has begun. Alleluia!

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in
Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from
the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God
the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and
the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion
of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and
the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead
us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
