WORSHIP APRIL 27 2014
2nd SUNDAY OF EASTER

THE GATHERING  Matt Frease
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  This Joyful Eastertide  Jan Bender
Sarah Martin, organist

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP
One: In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a
formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God
swept over the face of the waters.
All: And God said, "Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and
let it separate the waters from the waters."
One: And God said, "Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place,
and let the dry land appear."
All: And it was so. God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were
gathered together God called the seas.
One: And God saw that it was good. Let us worship God. -Gen. 1: 1, 6, 9-10

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 108  Christ Is Alive!

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Holy God, your word of creation caused the water to be filled with many kinds
of living beings; we thank you that your holy Word is for all like a river in the desert.
All life comes from you and you sustain us with living waters. Yet we confess
that we do not respect the fact that water means life as we use more than we need
and pollute your rivers and seas while others go without. As we remember the
way you bring us new life in the resurrection through the waters of baptism, help
us to see all of your creation as you do and respect the precious gift of your life
giving waters. Amen.

A MOMENT OF SILENCE  (for examination of conscience and personal prayers of confession)

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
One: Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing
from the throne of God and the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city.
All: On either side of the river is the tree of life and the leaves of the tree are
for the healing of the nations.
One: Nothing accursed will be found there any more. Believe the good news of the gospel:
All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. -Rev. 22:1-3

* THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in
Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from
the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God
the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and
the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion
of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and
the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead
us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
