WORSHIP MARCH 30 2014
FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT

THE GATHERING Baron Mullis
Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE  Deck Yourself, My Soul, with Gladness - Johannes Brahms
Sarah Martin, organist

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: God does not see as mortals see. We look on the outward appearance; God
looks on the heart.
All: Jesus, Light of the World, give us eyes to see as you see!
Leader: Once we lived in darkness, but now -- as children of light, we are called to what
is good and right and true.
All: Jesus, Light of the World, give us eyes to see as you see!
Leader: Let us worship our God!

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 389  O Jesus, I Have Promised

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Holy God, creator and savior, you are our shepherd, our companion, our parent
and our friend. You walk with us through every valley and you are with us at
every mountain top. You have given us eyes to see the hope that springs from
your love and grace. Yet, we must confess, that at times we are blind to your work
in our lives and we do not look and listen for the ways you speak to us. Open our
eyes and our hearts anew, O God. Wash us clean in your fresh baptismal waters
and show us the way to follow you. Amen.

THE KYRIE (Hymn 572)
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Once you were in darkness, but now in the Lord you are light.
All: Live as children of the light - for the fruit of the light is found in all that is
good and right and true.
Leader: Try to find out what is pleasing to the Lord and believe the good news of
the Gospel.
All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. - Ephesians 5: 8-10

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
