* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: O come let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our
salvation!
People: Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful
noise to him with songs of praise!
Leader: For the Lord is a great God, and a great king above all gods. In his hands are the
depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.
People: The sea is his, for he made it, and the dry land, which his hands have
formed.
Leader: O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
People: For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, the sheep
of his hand.
Leader: Let us worship God, who creates us, redeems and sustains us, Amen.
- Psalm 95:1-6

*THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 460  Holy God, We Praise Your Name

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Eternal God, in quiet moments of honest self-reflection, we entertain doubts and
fears that we would rather not allow to see the light of day. Our doubts themselves
cause us to be afraid. Do you still love us if we cannot bring ourselves to believe
some days? Are we still Christians if the creeds don’t ring true all the time? Are we
still forgiven and redeemed when forgiveness and redemption seem like empty
promises? Our struggles frighten us. Yet struggle is nothing new to you. You have
shared our doubts and fears and know what it is to question and be afraid. So help
us to trust that there is no valley of the shadow that we enter alone. We ask all
these things in Jesus’ name, and for his sake. Amen.

THE KYRIE (Hymn 572)
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: God so loved the world that he sent his only son, so that whoever believes in him may
not perish but have eternal life.
People: Indeed, God sent the son not into the world that the world might be
condemned but so that the world through him might be saved.
Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - John 3:16-17

*THE HYMN 399  We Walk by Faith and Not by Sight

*THE APOSTLES’ CREED  Dana Hughes
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus
Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the
Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he
descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into
heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he
shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy
catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection
of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy
will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive
us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen.
