FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT

Leader: The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you.

THE PRELUDE Larghetto Giuseppe Gherardeschi

* THE CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up, and did not let
my foes rejoice over me.
People: O Lord, my God, I cried to you for help and you have healed me.
Leader: O Lord you brought up my soul from Sheol, restored me to life from those gone
down to the Pit.
People: Sing praises to the Lord, O you his faithful one, and give thanks to his
holy name.
Leader: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer. Amen.
- Psalm 30:1-4

* THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN 457 I Greet Thee, Who My Sure Redeemer Art

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of holiness, our sin is before us. We know that we have not lived up to our
baptism. We have not forsaken the ways of sin. We have lingered in doubt and
fear and allowed them to shape who we are rather than taking our identity from
your eternal grace. Forgive us, we pray, and remake and renew us. Fashion from
our clay servants who give glory to you, for the sake of our lord Jesus Christ we
pray. Amen.

THE KYRIE (Hymn 572)
Lord, have mercy upon us.
Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us.

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Christ also suffered for sins, once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous,
in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh but made alive
in the Spirit. Believe the promise of the Gospel:
People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - 1 Peter 3:18

* THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (Hymn 416)
Here bestow on all your servants what they ask of you to gain,
What they gain from you forever with the blessed to retain,
And hereafter in your glory evermore with you to reign.

* THE PEACE OF CHRIST
(Children ages 3-10 are invited to leave after the Peace of Christ for special classes. Threes, fours & fives are in
Room 011; K-1st grade in Room 003; 2nd-3rd grade in Room 001; 4th-5th grade in worship).
